AirMech is an Action Real-Time Strategy game (ARTS for short) that puts players in the pilot’s seat of an airplane capable of transforming into a mech. These AirMechs are capable of huge destructive power, and also are used to transport their robotic armies.
In a typical match of AirMech, players grouped into two teams construct units to take over bases and eventually destroy the other team’s Fortress. On the surface game may seem simple, but each mech has different abilities and strategies associated with it. For example, the Warthog mech tends to be the offensive tank mech, whereas mechs such as the Osprey and Paladin tend to take more supportive roles, boosting their teammates and units.
Players in the game can customize their loadout of units that they can build in-game, as well as add on a Pilot to their mech which provides additional bonuses. All of the core items and units can be unlocked with the free in-game currency (Kudos points) with cosmetics such as hats, colored bullets, and skins that can be unlocked with the premium Diamond currency.
“In the future, the last survivors of the Great War continue their fight with the ultimate war machine: the AirMech®. Created using lost technology, Pilots have found, salvaged, or stolen AirMechs that they use to protect the weak, or to pillage. Which side do you fight for?” –official Steam game description
Carbon hasn’t said much about the game’s story, presumably so that players will discover it for themselves in the single-player campaign that will be released upon exiting Open Beta (The campaign will also be exclusive to owners of the AirMech Prime bundle).
The AirMech community is fairly small, but is a very friendly community with a lot of very helpful people. If you have a question you can just ask in the main Global chat and you will have it answered in a few seconds.
There are also forums provided by Carbon about various things related to the game, such as suggestions, guides, and information about upcoming events.
