Gigantic Alpha Update

The global Gigantic community has been anxious for more alpha information, so we’re going to use this week’s community update to share our progress and plans for the future.

Since our last update, alpha testing has progressed well. Over the last few weeks, we’ve focused our efforts on testing server capacity, a crucial step in our ability to support thousands of testers playing at once. To support that effort, we opened the floodgates on hundreds of testers to make sure we pushed the server to its limits.

Good News, Bad News

The good news? We met our goal for concurrent connections. The bad news? We all gathered around the server to watch it burst into flames…and it didn’t even get warm. 

At first that sounds like good news: our server withstood our largest concurrency push to date. But the whole point of the test is to find out how many players it takes to push our game systems and our server capacity over the cliff.

So bad news for us is good news for you: We desperately need more of you, so we will be adding more alpha testers throughout the fall season. Thousands of new testers.

Make Sure You’re Ready

If you’re waiting your turn for alpha access, make sure you’ve replied to the email that prompted you to verify your accounts provide a DxDiag report from your PC. That’s an important part of the process, so if you haven’t given us that information as part of your application, or if you don’t remember seeing that email, visit to file a ticket, and we’ll get you squared away.

And the Rest of the World?

Work continues on our plans to support testing outside of North America. We are refining our plans around the locations of our servers, actively talking to hosting partners across the world. Our intention is to run an alpha testing phase for those regions, allowing communities outside of North America to have an impact on how the game is played.

In some regions, language support is an important consideration as we develop our global testing plans, which is why we’re actively seeking a localization project manager for Gigantic. Know people who fit the bill? Send them to the Motiga careers page!

But tell them to hurry—we’ve got a world of people waiting to get their hands on Gigantic.

To summarize, we’re are speedily adding more of you to alpha testing every week, because we need you to help us break things. We are making progress on supporting gameplay beyond North America, and are hiring people to help us get there.

We’ll continue to give you updates on our progress when there are new and exciting things to share. In the meantime, stop by the community-run Gigantic  subreddit and let us know if you have additional questions. Motiga staff is lurking there—even if we can’t always provide you with the juicy Gigantic details you seek.

Finally, a big thank you to those folks who are patiently waiting to play Gigantic. It’s hard to believe that it’s been only four months since we introduced Gigantic to the world. We are as anxious to get you into the game as you are to play it—we promise!
